Officially in Season - First Marathon!

I am now officially in the build up phase for my very first marathon. Saturday I completed an easy 10 mile run with no pain ankle or foot pain, so unless anything else pops up, I should be in line to enter the Maraton de Guayaquil On October 7.

Today I spent a good two hours fiddling with schedules, looking to balance work, writing, photography and running as I move up a distance level. The good news is my main day job of teaching is about to get much lighter. Down here in Guayaquil we are in the middle of mid term exams. Two more weeks of abbreviated exam schedules and teacher in-service days. Then we have a week of vacation. Meanwhile the night classes I teach end on August 23. It is a great time to ramp up my mileage while still getting in adequate rest.

September 2 is an important mile marker. I'll be heading out to Milagro, an hour inland from Guayaquil, where I'll run a 10K to measure my fitness.

I can't wait.
